Auburn University Names Hugh Freeze as 31st Head Football Coach

Hugh Freeze Returns to Auburn After Resigning from Ole Miss

On November 28, 2022, Auburn University announced the appointment of Hugh Freeze as its 31st head football coach. The news comes after a thorough search process following the departure of Bryan Harsin earlier this season.

An Experienced Leader

Freeze brings a wealth of experience to Auburn, having served as head coach at Ole Miss, Arkansas State, and Liberty. He has a proven track record of success, leading his teams to multiple bowl appearances and top-25 rankings.

At Ole Miss, Freeze led the Rebels to an 39-25 record and four bowl wins, including a Sugar Bowl victory in 2015. His departure from Ole Miss in 2017 was due to personal reasons, but he quickly rebounded, guiding Liberty to a 32-12 record and two bowl wins in three seasons.

Auburn Athletic Director John Cohen expressed his confidence in Freeze's ability to lead the Tigers back to prominence. "Hugh Freeze is a proven winner with a track record of success both on and off the field," Cohen said.

Freeze is expected to bring an up-tempo offense and aggressive defense to Auburn. He is known for his player development and ability to recruit top talent.
