A charter flight carrying Assange and his legal team left Saipan at approximately 10:1 pm local time and arrived in Canberra at 7:38 pm tonight. At a news conference held after his arrival, Assange expressed his gratitude for the support he has received and pledged to continue his fight for transparency and freedom of information.

Assange was arrested in London in 2019 and extradited to the United States to face charges of conspiracy to hack into government computer systems. He was sentenced to five years in prison but has now been released after serving part of his sentence.

The plea deal reached between Assange and US authorities has not been publicly disclosed. However, it is believed that Assange agreed to provide information to US investigators in exchange for a reduced sentence.
